I am so "style" fickle. I don't know what to do with myself. Take these three pictures, for instance.
All the same shelf. One day I am totally crazy about primitive/country style. The next I'm nuts about Shabby Chic.
In art, it's ok. I've learned that I just need to do what I'm in the mood for. But with decorating that can get a little hairy. Especially when an anchor color in primitives is black and in shabby chic is white.
Maybe I'm trying too hard to fit into a category. It would make it easier, I think, somehow but maybe I'd get too bored. Hmpfh.
I must go get ready for a Presbyterian Women meeting. We'll have Bible Study, then a speaker and then yummy lunch. I have been flip-flopping (hmmm seems to be a theme today) about whether to go or not because they're predicting ice storms later today. But I guess pimento sandwiches and jello salad are calling. It has nothing to do with the chocolate cake or mini eclairs or pie. No. Really!
What?!

Stop trying to fit into a niche and just surround yourself with the things you love!
I do the same thing. I like it ALL!!
And you can't fool me....it's the chocolate eclairs! Go for dessert first then if there's room you can always nibble on a pimento sandwich.
Lisaoceandreamer did a post about this a while back....we all like so many different styles and types of things.....and as long as you love it...it'll work together.
hmmmmmmm maybe you could get another shelf. Paint one white and one black and then you could switch whenever you like!
I agree with bluejude - that is what I do and my place is eclectic but I would like to think it is very homey...
It's all about what you love, enjoy!
All I saw were the words...chocolate cake...all else was a blurrrrr.
I like your different styles! I change things around my house frequently; especially in the kitchen. It's fun. :)
It's all a matter of blending whatever you love. I could never say my home is decorated in ____ because it's all over the place. I could relate to the shelf changing...I just mentioned this type of thing on my blog today - about changing my blog. Just move things around and know however you've placed things - that you love them.
Now what was this about chocolate cake??
XOXO
Darcy, that's really great advice. I used to just do that and it all really does work together if you do that. THanks!
Janet. hehe I thought of you all as I was eating my apple pie. I picked it up right before I saw the chocolate pie. I almost had both. LOL
Gemma Yeah, I remember that now that you mention it!
Heather That's a great idea. I get them cheap at Goodwill anyway! It sure would be easier than repainting all the time. lol (in between pink and black, the shelf was cream but I didn't get a pic lol).
Me I've seen pics of your place. Really cool! I love the word "eclectic."
Mrs.Goodneedle I'm starting to get that picture. lol
Pam LOL
Revee Thanks. I love the pic of your kids making things in the kitchen. (and of the kitchen)
Lisa Chocolate cake? hmmm not me. I didn't mention chocolate cake. hehehe
Yes! Just invent your own style, that's what I do. Lots of people have had a hard time deciding which style I decorate in (I've heard them stumble and try to describe it) but I think that's because they've never seen this style before and there is no name for it, other than mine! :) Love your pics... have fun with more decorating! Blessings, Debra

Oooo Me stole my 'eclectic' word ;) I like a mix of styles too.
Its good to be back on line after my hardrive crash, as to your confusion about different styles on the shelf, I say mix them all do your own thing then its your personal style.
It shows me that you have many wonderful styles and ideas. That you are open to change. That you enjoy life and want to embrace it all!
I love everything, too - used to try to rotate things around, then finally just decided my style is "eclectic" and let everything hang out together!
Hope you're having a great Valentine's Day, Lisa! xo
Your lunch sounds wonderful!
I love the squares!
And, I have given up on having any style and just fill my home with treasures - wht unites them is my love for them.
