Goodies!

As you know, today was date day. :) We did our usual...Chinese restaurant, Big Lots, A.C.Moore and then various shops in the mall. I got lots of goodies today. We lingered almost too long and I was nearly late picking up the boys from school. First, in Big Lots, as we walked in the door I saw this little box of Battenburg lace things, heart-shaped, which I love. They were .25c down from .50c. I got one and felt happy with it. Then we got a few things that we needed and some goodies for Tim's mom.

Next, we went to A.C. Moore. I already knew that I wanted to buy some lined baskets. I receive their flyer every Wednesday (convenient, huh?) so I knew they had these on sale for $10.00. There are five baskets of varying sizes.I've wanted some for ages and feel this was a good price, so I am very pleased. I also got two little wooden boxes. I plan to paint them.

Next, we walked around finding stores with mens' hats as Tim would like to find one that he really likes. He always looks but never buys one. ;)

We stopped in a cute little store that was filled with teddy bears, quilts, candles and dolls. We didn't buy anything, just sort of strolled through.

Then we ended at what is becoming one of my favorite shops. It is called "Art on a Mission" and they sell donated, mostly hand-made things and also sell some consigned pieces. The money they make goes to the Rescue Mission. One of the artists sits at the front of the store working on a piece as you shop. They have lots of mismatched silver, china and glass things. They have tons of framed art work, although it is very, very expensive. My favorite things are the linens and crocheted things. They have aprons as well but I can never bring myself to buy them because I know I am perfectly capable of making something similar. So, today while hubby was conversing with the clerk I was looking through a stack of linens, mostly napkins, with the intent of buying them for embroidery. They were about 1.00 to 1.50 and I had picked a small stack. I walked on back through the store and saw a cart...of discounted items...50%! There was a hatbox full of basically the same thing I had in my hand. They were marked .80 to $2.00 before the discount. I took them to her and said I wanted everything in the box (but not the box which was $8.00). Then I also picked up a $2.25 doily to add to the collection. She took them all out tearing off the price tags, and when she got to the bottom, she said "oh guess what's in the bottom?" It was a tag that said .25 cents each. Whooohoooo! I got 19-20 white linen napkins for $4.75. (I think 20 because she counted the tags and I think two were hooked on the same tag as a 2-fer). I was walking on clouds with my wonderful deal. :)

what does lol mean? :o)

lol means laughing out loud. It's kind of like laughing while you're saying something so people know that you means things in a fun, not serious way. :)

Cindi hehehe It's called being cheap! I was really lucky, wasn't I?

Cindi, it's funny that you said you might go tomorrow because when we were there today I told Tim that I always look for you when we're in there, just in case. LOL He said "who's Cindi? Oh yea, your blogging buddy." LOL

'Sme again, sorry last comment I promise ;o). I have just been looking up yours and Mrs B's favourite product Murphy's Oil Soap, to see if I can get any in the UK. Did you know that it is used to treat flaky skin in pigs and used commonly to clean elephants?! :o.

Can't seem to see it to buy in UK :o(, maybe e-bay is the way to go. Blessings.

Pigs and elephants!?...Oh my!

hahahahhaha pigs and elephants. They must be the best smelling ones around. :)

And Sarah, you can comment as often as you wish. I look forward to your comments and check and re-check to read them. :)

Bless you Lisa. I do the same. :o)
p.s. maybe you and Mrs B could set up an elephant sanctuary and have the sweetest smelling elephants (even Murphy's Oil Soap couldn't redeem the smell of pigs)!

Sounds like you had a great date day! Wow, all those lovely linens and so cheap! You must be very pleased! What are you planning to embroider on them? I like the lined baskets too. Haven't seen any around here for a while. Thought of lining one myself - but that would be tricky!

Ah shopping..it's such a joy... and what a very special man your husband must be to take you on a date that includes shopping!

Wonderful goodies, Lisa. I've been looking for such lined basket for ages. Those are just too expensive here in Paris! Love your finds :)

Sarah. :) You always make me smile.

Kelleigh, It's funny, I've never liked shopping, but lately I seem to be doing a lot of it. Oddly, I have always been proud of the fact that I wasn't that interested in "girly" things like linens and china...and now suddenly I can't get enough of such things. Tim is a good man and I think he's enjoying these little touches. He really likes textiles, although our tastes are fairly opposite. lol I'm not sure what I'll embroider on the linens. I have a number of free things I've printed out. I'll have to sit down one afternoon and look through them all. I think some will be gifts.
I am very pleased with the baskets. I've already put a few of them to use in my baker's rack. I, too, thought of making them myself until I saw this good deal. Some friends made one for me when my first son was born. I had done his nursery in this lovely blue floral (with teddy bear tie backs). I figured blue flowers would work for a girl or a boy. My friend took some of the same material and lined a basket with it and I kept the baby powder and such in it. sigh..memories..last night that same baby boy had a job interview.

Isabelle, how I wish I could ship some to you. Perhaps I could? I have wanted some for a very long time myself and they were worth the wait. They're very handy.

I think hubby was inspired. He went back out last night to WalMart and bought a number of really great plastic boxes and organized some of his things. :)

Wow, this comment was like a post, huh? LOL

Love your baskets...I've been looking for one's like that. We do not have an AC Moore store here in Southwestern PA.

I, too, just love linens!

Would it be okay to add you to my favorite websites page on my home tour website "Home Is Where The Heart Is"? http://www.freewebs.com/annewithane65

Oh yes! Thank you. I'd be so honored. I love your website.
